New pattern, ideal for beginners: Mini Roselette, “my first crochet garment”

I designed this miniature version of my popular Roselette when novice crocheters (I had only taught them the basic stitches) asked me to teach them how to crochet a sweater. This smaller version uses exactly the same stitches and techniques as the Roselette and Violaine tops, only with less stitches and rows… which makes it so much quicker to make !

The workshop was a great success (one of the ladies made her full sized Roselette within a week on her own), and here’s the pattern which I hope might be an incentive for others to gain confidence and start branching out from dishcloths or any other “flat” items.

To make a mini Roselette, you will need to know how to chain, do a single crochet and double crochet (US crochet terms).
Any other special stitch will be detailed in the pattern, with close up photos and/or links to online tutorials.
You may use any yarn and hook combination. For a Barbie sized sweater, I recommend using dk weight yarn and a 5 mm (H) hook.

The pattern is detailed, includes tons of step by step pictures and I made sure to avoid any abbreviations. A compact version of the same instructions is also provided at the end for more experienced crocheters… or to practice your pattern-reading skills after completing a first Mini Roselette.

Price : $5 (this pattern is available both in french and english)

To make the garland shown above (used to display at my booth at a wool/yarn festival here in France), I used about 2 m (2 feet) of thin green ribbon with white polka dots, and threaded the ribbon through shoulder stitches. This way I can rearrange the placement of the mini sweaters depending on the length of ribbon needed. And the mini sweaters are not damaged ! 🙂
