Babouches, the whole story

I had the idea for those Babouches sometime this winter. I like to visualize the different granny shapes (triangle, pentagon or square) and imagine how it could translate into a part of the body/hand/foot ect… to turn into a garment or accessory.

A triangle reminded me of the toe end of a foot. Thus the idea for those babouches was born.

I first tried this idea with some Lamb’s pride bulky. Pretty colors, but ahem… Ugly result ! The slipper was huge and I really wasn’t satisfied at all with the construction. The process just didn’t flow, somehow it wasn’t right. Back it went into the bag of Lamb’s pride Bulky.

Then about a month ago, inspiration hit again, and I had to try right away with some Cascade 220 wool. My first try (brown and teal) was much more satisfying, altough not perfect yet, especially towards the heel. So I went down a couple sizes for the hook, changed around the numbers for the heel section, and added heel shaping.

The red and green sample turned out soooo nice I’m still amazed at how it all worked out! 😀 They just just perfectly, like they’d follow the natural curves of the foot which is very confortable.

The pattern is now written down and in the final stages of testing. I “had” to crochet another pair to photograph all the steps and add pics to the pattern. Despite the cheap acrylic yarn, I like them nearly as much as the first pair… 🙂 And I’m halfway through a third pair, for one of the girls (they seem a bit tight for Plume)

I’m hoping to release the pattern by monday. Of course it will be included in the “Round the granny square” Ebook too. 😛

Just love these. So stylish, chic and 15th Century all at the same time.
