… And the winner of last month’s fiber giveaway is…
Comment number 29 : Congrats Carla ! I am emailing you, please send me your adress details and I’ll send you the fiber !
I have been crocheting some lately, on yet more squares. Yarn is some recycled thrifted yummy mohair, perfect for a large mohair throw that I’ve been dreaming of for a long time. I spent tons of time browsing through all my crochet book and looking for the perfect square. The finished one is from a japanese book, and I’m now working on the “Willow square“. Very pretty but Why-Oh-Why is there not any chart in that book ?!!!! On top of being practical, diagrams really help understanding the construction.
NB: anybody knows if there’s a chart in the IK Crochet featuring the “Larger than life bag” ? I lent that issue to my friend, need to get it back soon… 😛
Yesterday night I also started spinning again, turning this pretty (but nowhere as soft as you’d expect) Jacob roving into an aran-weight single. I was a bit dissapointed when I first received this because it felt nearly coarse, but it’s getting better when spun. And I like the bits of fiber sticking out, a little like alpaca. I might ply it with thin mohair to add a little softness, we’ll see.
Oh, and remember this tiny blankie I showed a couple posts down, made with leftover yarn ? Because I was really limited by yarn amounts, I tried several edging options. One was a plum frilly edging, which didn’t work because it didn’t balance well with the rest to make it pretty enough.
In the end, I dug through my pile of pink-and-green bag of yarn (to become a granny-square project at some point) and selected two that really worked together. A simple granny-style edging was what worked best in the end and I’m really happy with the outcome now! I think it adds a lot to the blankie, both making it larger AND prettier, with soft colors. If I ever was to have another baby girl I would totally wrap my baby in it ! 😀
I’m now working on a little doll with the leftovers: Am planning to list the set on Etsy when it’s all done, should be pretty.
Congrats Carla!
Your blanket looks soo cute, great color combination!
OH WOW! Thanks. I haven’t gotten the mail yet but will respond as soon as I do.
I’ve never done any spinning, so … I guess this will either be a great opportunity to learn or maybe I’ll try doing some felting. I saw a pattern for a felted necklace and given that these are my favorite colors, I’m sure if I manage to accomplish felting, I’ll have lots to wear it with.
Thanks again, and I’ll respond with my address info as soon as I receive the e-mail
