This morning I finally (after my car’s breakdown last week) got to visit Claudia and her brand new (to her) Louet S10 wheel. First task was to assemble it, and somehow manage to get the tension right to be able to spin some yarn.. That took a good hour probably, after changing a couple bolts around so the wheel wouldn’t wobble (it came dissambled and apparently you have to be very careful as to which bolt goes where), getting the band in place, trying different chairs to find the right heigt… and then trying and trying, breaking yarn and not being able to treadle right..
Then after a while I changed the bobin around to get it to turn faster, played with the tension thingie, and Ta-da, suddenly everything started to fall in place little by little.
Another half-hour practise later, I was able to spin a semi-even single… 😀 Phew !! By the end of the session I was starting to get the hang of it, even starting to treadle in the right direction without having to help with my hand. The drafting would need to get better, as it’s really quite different from with my kick-spindle. But Wow, it spins SO fast !! Now I can see how quick it would be to spin yarns that take probably at least twice the time on my kick-spindle. But that’s ok. I can live with that until I have enough room for an actual studio for all my fibery endeavours..
Claudia also tried her hand on the wheel: she’s got a little less experience with spinning and found it a bit difficult to handle both the drafting and treadling together. But I’m sure she’ll get eager helping hands to help turning the wheel.. 🙂
And of course the kids had a great time playing together, or just watching the cute baby !
For sure, let’s do that again Claudia ! 🙂
Hi
I got my fiber today and it looks great!
Thank you sooo much!
Great photos. Glad you made it to Claudia’s for some spinning. I love the photo with the girls sitting on the couch together reading a book. 🙂
