That’s it, I’m hooked. I started a skirt for Nell yesterday night – ah well, it was originally going to be for Plume but we’ll say there wasn’t enough fabric – and it’s nearly done.
Some little adventures along the way, but all in all it’s going to be pretty cool really. Freestyle of course, with awesome scraps of beautiful upholstery fabrics. A bit of a b— to sew so I may finish a few seams by hand.
Anyways, I’m hooked and am already planning skirts and dresses and softies. Looked on Etsy (where else ?) and found tons of fabulous patterns (like this, this, this, this, this and tons more).
Funny how I had planned to get back to pottery this year… and it looks like I’ll be doing sewing instead. 😉
Also, I learned that you can even print your very own fabric, how awesome is that ? Get the girls to draw their doll, get it printed, and voila ?!!! Love it.
A couple things I like less about sewing though:
– all the bits and bobs you need. Lucky I’ve been collecting lots of things for several years. Now I need more needles for the machine, and even pins, yes pins ! Would you believe I have only TWO left. Weird.
– I’m not sure I’ll ever be very good at finishing. And because I love all those thick fabrics I might never get perfect tension. Still, I’m going to work on it. Just got my hands on several pretty patterns, which should teach me a couple tricks hopefully.
– Speaking of patterns: $9 (and up) per pattern in most cases on Etsy ? Ouch. That’s when I feel lucky to be able to swap ! 😀
AND, last but not least: I bought a fantastic vintage Singer sewing machine for 10 Euros this morning, the one with a folding table and a pedal. It looks really great and I could let it pass. (Also got a bread machine for 3 Euros…) No I’m not telling you the adress of my new favorite thrift store ! 😉
