I have finally finished weaving in all the ends and blocking the blankie for my friend’s baby boy. Now I just need to give it to them .. Joining the squares was a big concern before I started on this one, as for my previous one I tried an sc-seam which turned out ugly (large ridge) and ended up sewing the squares together. SO time-consuming, hated it.
This time, I’m happy about the trick I used: I sc-seamed the squares together BUT with a much lighter weight yarn (which I then double-stranded for the edging). As a result, the ridge is small and cute this time, and I like it very much that way. 🙂
Like it so much actually, that I started a tiny new one with leftover yarn from the booties and jacket I made earlier for another little guy. Because I have so little yarn left it’s going to be real small, and I decided to go with plum yarn to use as a contrasting yarn. Not entirely happy about it so far, so I may keep working on it a bit..
Oh and in fiber news, I carded some of that fiber the other night, and spun tiny bits just to see how it did. Turns out the super fluffy fiber is ok, not the greatest fiber (as if spinning worsted whatever the technique, with bits of fiber gettting out everywhere) but totally spinnable !
The other fiber (slighly more grey) is totally finer, BUT so darn full of lanolin that I don’t think I can do anything out of it. Also, because it is so fine you can totally see all the irregularities still mixed in the fleece. But I’m guessing if processed correctly this could make awesome superfine fiber. Oh well, I still loved playing with it, and may keep it for later.. Who knows ?!!
