In some patterns including my newest Jester hood crochet pattern, you will need to work 3 treble crochet closed together (US crochet terms) or 4 tr closed tog.

Here’s how this double // triple decrease is done, allowing you to close 3 // 4 treble crochets together.
tr3tog =3 treble crochets closed together:
* Yarn over 2 times, insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop,
- (Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the crochet hook) x 2 *
- Repeat from * to * 2 more times (= 3 times total). You have 4 loops on hook.
- Yarn over, pull through all loops on hook.
- The tr3tog is completed. You’ve decreased 2 sts.

tr4tog = 4 treble crochets closed together:
- * Yarn over 2 times, insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop,
- (Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the crochet hook) x 2 *
- Repeat from * to * 3 more times (= 4 times total). You have 5 loops on hook.
- Yarn over, pull through all loops on hook.
- The tr4tog is completed. You’ve decreased 3 sts.
